Quick Facts

Asbestos Chrysotile

  • Asbestos is a mineral that has been used in more than 3,000 different products over the last 100 years for its insulating, acoustical and fire protective properties.
  • Common products that contain asbestos are pipe insulation, floor and ceiling tile, spray-on insulation, boiler wrap insulation, wall and attic insulation, roofing, and wall systems (such as plaster and drywall joint compound).
  • If your home contains asbestos and it is not crumbling or in poor condition, it may be safer to leave it alone. However, if it is in poor condition or if renovation or repair activities are planned, precautions need to be taken in order to prevent the inhalation of asbestos fibers.
  • Asbestos has been shown to cause lung cancer, mesothelioma, and various other diseases when inhaled.

In many cases, mold can be cleaned up and the surface disinfected by yourself. However, for sensitive individuals or in cases where there is a large quantity of mold, retaining a remediation contractor may be necessary. AAI's experience with remediation equipment and techniques will ensure your mold remediation project will be performed to your satisfaction.
